Expat Golf News

Selectia, the overseas property company, held a Golf Day to launch their Amigolink partnership.

The event was held at the PGA Europro Tour championship course at Mosa Trajectum which is part of Selectia’s portfolio.

Fifty-two players played the Stone and Olive courses and to ensure all returned at a reasonable time for the presentation meal, a two tee start was used, with half of the players starting on the Pine course and the remainder starting on the Stone course.Amongst the players was Steve Pinnell, drummer with the top country rock group Smokie. The competition consisted of three categories, Gold Silver and Bronze. After the tournament the players enjoyed and drink in The Plaza courtyard before departing to the Venta San Antonio for a superb dinner and presentation.

José Manuel Flores of Selectia and Sue Merritt of Amigolink welcomed all the players and guests before presenting the prizes to the winners. There were some respectable scores and it seemed fitting that the best score went to the Gold category.

Results: Gold: 1 Craig Roberts 40 points (on count back), 2 Steve Pinnell 40; Silver: 1 Antonio Aboy 36, Barry Thompson 34; Bronze: 1 Peter Ashton 35, 2 Isabel Sanz 32.

There were trophies and numerous prizes ranging from Mizuno drivers, golf bags and special wedges. Also presented was an original golf painting from Spanish artist Isabel Sanz.

Plans are afoot to hold further golf days amongst other social activities.

Las Ramblas Golf Society

The Society played a team game of 2 from 4 with all four scores counting on the ninth and 18th.

My team of Lindsay Forbes, Brian Townend, Doug Wright and TonyBrooks scraped into the winner’s enclosure by a point with a final score of 91.

Wednesday saw one of our majors when we held our annual Caja Murcia Day organised by Graham Moore and sponsored by the San Miguel branch of Caja Murcia.

This is the fifth year of this event and we really appreciate the prizes supplied and presented by Carmen and Sylvia from the bank.

The competition was a Stableford played in glorious conditions and proved to be very competitive with the first three only separated on a countback after they all finished with a score of one under par 37 pts.

The event provided revenge for B Team captain, Dave Pulling, who took first place from A Team captain, Doug Wright, by virtue of 19 points on the back nine to my 18.

Well played Dave, who also hit a massive drive down the 18th to win the longest drive.

After everyone had finished we were joined by our partners for a superb Menú del Día with copious quantities of vino and much general frivolity.

Carmen and Sylvia presented the prizes and afterwards president Mike Saunders presented them with a lovely bouquet of flowers.

All round it was a good day.

Prize winners were: 1. Dave Pulling 37 pts, 2 Doug Wright 37 , 3 Tony Brooks 37, 4 Ron Phipps 36. Nearest The Pin (6th) Carole Wheeler, Twos Club Barry Holtham, Lindsay Forbes, Graham Curtis(guest).
