Alicante Airport New Terminal - will make it one of the most significant air hubs in Europe.
On completion later this year the new terminal will be able to handle an incredible additional 600 passengers every hour. Work is reported to be on schedule and it’s expected the new L-shaped terminal, complete with four boarding gates will cost over 200 million euros. The El Altet, airport when finished will have a very contemporary interior with more facilities for travelers. More shops, boutiques, rest areas and modern children’s play areas. Parking is currently always at a premium however next to the terminal will be a new six-storey car park able to hold over 4,000 vehicles. The possibility of a rail link to the airport is still on the cards.

Alicante is one of the fastest growing cities in Spain. The refurbishing of El Altet airport is a sign of the growth that the city has experienced in the last decade accredited mainly to increased tourism, which is Alicante’s principal industry. The new expansion of the airport will enhance this image and its status in the Tourist industry. << Back

EasyJet the cut price airline wants the UK government to reduce security measures at British airports
Chief executive Andy Harrison is reported to have said that ongoing security measures could begin to hit sales of seats and affect operations. Many people were now reluctant to fly to or from the UK because of the restrictions put in place at the height of last month’s transatlantic terror alert.
German state airline Lufthansa’s European operation, Dieter Grotepass, also agreed that Airports and security need to be adjusted.
Passengers are required to remove their trouser belts and place all metallic items, like phones, coins, pens, and jewelry, into a special tray for scrutiny before travelers can proceed to boarding gates.
A move to screen laptop computers separately is set to be adopted across Europe, following a meeting of the EU’s commission on air travel. They are also set to agree to restrictions on the size of cabin luggage and restrict carrying liquids in hand baggage.

Ryanair announces new routes from Alicante to Dublin, Liverpool, London, Dusseldorf & Pisa.

Leading low-cost airline Ryanair announced five new routes from Alicante to Dublin, Liverpool, London, Dusseldorf and Pisa on Tuesday at a specially convened press conference at el altet airport.
Marketing director Bridget Dowling said that Ryanair was delighted to be able to announce the new routes from Alicante after having been operating out of San Javier and Manises airports since 2003 and 2004 respectively.
Ms Dowling said that Ryanair led the field in providing the lowest fares and the lowest costs. She added that the company was Number One for customer service, has 122 new aircraft and only used regional airports. She said that 98 per cent of all bookings are made via the internet and that Ryanair’s tariffs are the lowest compared with other low-cost operators.
Timetables for the new destinations are:
Dublin-Alicante, 13.30-18.05-20.00 and Alicante-Dublin 13.30-17-30, flying on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, starting from May 2
Liverpool-Alicante, 09.25-13.10, Alicante-Liverpool, 13.50-15.35, flying on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, starting from April 19

LOW-COST BATTLE
The arrival of Ryanair to Alicante is set to rekindle the battle for passengers among low-cost airlines operating from El Altet.
Alicante leader easyJet will be Ryanair’s main competitor as it currently operates flights from Alicante to 10 UK airports plus another three European cities.
Air traffic figures at Alicante increased very slightly in 2006, but the arrival of new airlines added to the opening of the temporary terminal to accommodate low-cost airlines, is expected to give passenger figures a new boost. Budget Volunteering with i-to-i
