Plans for Barcelona to Málaga high-speed train link

Development minister Magdalena Alvarez (photo, centre) has divulged plans for a direct high-speed AVE train link between Barcelona and Málaga that will not pass through Madrid. However, the initiative is still very much in the early planning stage and so details such as cost or completion date cannot be confirmed.

The project consists in constructing a 'by-pass' joining the Barcelona-Madrid line in the north with the Madrid-Málaga line in the south, and is expected to shave around five hours off the journey of a passenger travelling between Barcelona and Málaga.

The high-speed train link between Málaga and Sevilla is expected to open on the 20th February. There will be six stops - Málaga, Antequera, Puente Genil, Córdoba and Sevilla - and journey times between Málaga and Córdoba and Málaga and Sevilla will be 65 and 115 minutes respectively - the latter being around 35 minutes less than currently.

Tickets between Málaga and Sevilla will oscilate betwen €33 for a single ticket, dropping to €15.18 as part of a 44-ticket deal. Tickets between Málaga and Córdoba will cost €19.05 one-way, falling to €8.76 each for a 44-ticket pass.

Heathrow to Spain New terminal will make it easier for British Travellers

The long-awaited opening of the new terminal at London's Heathrow Airport is set to make travelling to Spain even easier for British passengers. Although the UK already enjoys excellent links to the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca, the £4.3 billion Terminal 5 will provide even more flights to southern Spain and significantly reduce queues and waiting times for holidaymakers. Due to open on March 27th and built exclusively for the use of British Airways, the terminal will be capable of handling 30 million passengers each year and is five times as large as Terminal 4, the Telegraph reports. However, it has other advantages in addition to its size, with a number of innovative features designed to make the experience of taking a flight as quick and comfortable as possible. Terminal 5 will offer an online check-in system, eliminating the need for queues at the desk, while luggage can also be conveniently deposited at one of the 96 'fast bag drops'. The terminal also contains a number of designer stores bound to appeal to shopping fans, including such prestigious names as Harrods, Prada and Paul Smith. BA's franchise GB Airways currently operates flights to Malaga from Heathrow, while an Alicante route is only available from nearby London Gatwick.
