The Queens
Garden Resort Hotel
Bangkok
By Mike & Chris Smith |
We
booked the hotel for one night having just flown in from
Abu Dhabi using the on line booking company www.hotels2thailand.com.
Using the on line chat I was able to make an instant reservation
at a better rate which included the transfer from the
airport.
We
arrived at Bangkok rather tired about 6pm in the evening,
and after collecting our luggage, we dragged it was seemed
like miles to the Airport Exit where our driver was waiting
to take us to the Hotel. Our cases were really heavy there
were no trolleys available and to make matters worse one
of the handles broke on the suitcase.
We hung around for a 20 minutes waiting for the other
passengers to arrive and then set off for Queens Gardens
Hotel, advertised as being only ten minutes from the airport
but seemed much further away.
The situation wasn’t impressive, we arrived via
some narrow scruffy looking streets, with a few rough
looking stalls and shabby buildings. However the Hotel
reception was well lit up with lots of colored lights
strung up all around. It’s a very cheap US $20 per
room per night hotel so we didn’t expect much, but
in fact the rooms were clean and perfectly adequate. After
we checked in at reception we were driven by mini bus
to our room in an annex about two minutes walk away from
the main building.
By this time we had been travelling for about 24 hours
and were feeling the need of a shower and a sleep. The
facilities in the room were pretty basic with an en suite
loo, washbasin and shower in the same very small room.
It was ok, and after we had cleaned up we went to the
fairly typical outdoor Thai restaurant which was adjacent
to the hotel. Again it was less than sophisticated but
the food was excellent and cheap, we had king sized prawns,
Thai soup and rice.
Whle we ate we were treated to a video concert by the
Eagles, Phil Collins and several other stars on a huge
outdoor screen, if we hadn’t been so tired and the
mozzies weren’t so annoying it would have been a
perfect night.
Our early call was for 3.30 am to catch the 4 am shuttle
to the airport. Shuttles run througout the night and cost
300 baht unless you make your booking in advance when
it is included in the price. Very very inexpensive place
to spend a night after a long flight.
